Dún Uí Mhaoilíosa, Renmore Barracks , Galway , Galway , H91 E22C, Ireland.

Mhairi Sutherland’s film PRONTO was produced as part of 14-18 NOW, the UK’s arts programme for the First World War centenary, in collaboration with Golden Thread Gallery, Belfast. Cadets from local schools in Bangor, Northern Ireland, perform a text taken from notes written by a 17-year-old ‘boy’ soldier hours before going ‘over the top’. We are delighted to feature this work in the Museum of the Connaught Rangers, at Dún Uí Mhaoilíosa Barracks, Renmore, a particularly apt location for the work at this time of centenaries.

Duration: 10mins

Dún Uí Mhaoilíosa is a military installation in Renmore. The barracks were originally established as the depot of the Connaught Rangers in 1889. The Connaught Rangers was disbanded at the time of Irish Independence in 1922.  The barracks were taken over by the Irish Army at that time and then renamed Dún Uí Mhaoilíosa after Liam Mellows, an Irish Republican, in 1952.  The barracks are now home to the 1st Infantry Battalion, Irish Army.
